Tickets selling out during previews

Alright.... so I'm a little obsessed with Wicked. I just checked on line to see if there is a seat available for tonight's performance and it's sold out!! I'm glad that show is selling out in it's first of previews. I can't wait for next weeks opening night on Friday, February 6th.

Matinee Preview

My friend Dan (left with Kip and Matt before a Wicked performance in LA), who's seen the show at least 20 times, said the understudy would probably go on during the matinee performance. Damn, he was right! Vicky Noon stood in for Teal Wicks as Elphaba. At first I wasn't really impressed with her version of The Wizard and I. Vicky did a pretty good job and held her own during Defying Gravity. Her voice is strong but pitchy in some areas. As the show went on, I grew to like her a lot. What impressed me the most was No good deed. She hit a home run and redeemed herself.

The funniest part of the show was during the cornfield fight scene towards the end when Elphaba was allowed to leave by Fiero. As she was getting ready to leave, her hat fell off and Glinda threw it to her. She caught it! I started laughing but most people thought it was part of the show.

The crowd was pretty enthusiastic, applauding loudly after ever song. The audience clapped loudly when Elphaba re-appeared after being doused with a bucket of water. Though the audience was of an older age group, I felt they really liked the show.

Matinee Preview

It's finally here in San Francisco. Yesterday, I broke down and bought a ticket to today's (January 28th) matinee preview performance. I was amazed at my seat selection Center Orchestra, Row G, Seat 107. Since the show is in previews, the ticket cost $75.00 plus surcharge and taxes (total $88.50).

After I go to the gym, I'll head over to the Orpheum Theatre at 8th and Market which is only 6 blocks from where I live. I'm so excited about it returning home to San Francisco.

Wicked

I am a huge Wicked fan, although I must admit I couldn't finish reading the book. I've tried several times but just could not get into it until I saw the musical in the summer of 2006 in Chicago. I actually had tickets to see it in San Francisco in 2003 before it went to Broadway but the day I was supposed to go was cancelled for unknown reasons. We couldn't re-schedule due to the sold out run at the Curran Theater.

My friends Grant and Rick (pictured above) and I were going to see Madonna's Confession on a Dance Floor Tour in Chicago (I had seen the show twice before in San Jose and Fresno). They talked me into seeing the Wicked with them and fell in love with it once the overture started playing. I was blown away by "Defying Gravity" which is my favorite song.

Since then I have seen Wicked in Los Angeles (4 times), Chicago (2 times) and once in New York. I already have tickets to see Wicked! in my home town of San Francisco for the following dates: February 6 (opening night) and February 17.

The last time I saw Wicked was January 10, 2009 in Los Angeles before it moved to San Francisco. It could be the last time I would ever see Eden Espinosa and Megan Hilty perform the roles of Elphaba and Glinda respectively, who are my all time favorite performers.
